Family Degner
We call our story „Lulu - Land“.
After the birth of our son Damian in
October 2010, we made a lot of trips to
Rhine river banks. He admired the water
and the big ships, but of course he was not
allowed to go into the water. Dangerous
ships driving on the water made us walk
passed Technik Museum Speyer instead.
There is a propeller outside, under which
we could push the stroller. Whenever we
ran under it, he made a little move like a
laola wave by saying „Lulu Lulu LULU!“ And
with the last „LULU“, he threw his little
arms in the air and was so happy about the
spinning propeller and always wanted to
be pushed along the fence to see the
exhibits on the grounds.
Trips to the Rhine turned into trips to Lulu
Land. As we live in Speyer, we eventually
went to the foyer to get information ab-
out the museum. Fortunately, a flyer of the
friends‘ association fell into our hands and
so we signed up for a family membership in
2013 and the first trips to the Technik-
Museum, pardon „Lulu-Land“, began.
For us as a family with a very active
toddler it became a dream:
If the weather was bad, we had a trip to
Lulu-Land. If the weather was nice, we
had trip to Lulu-land. On Sundays we
preferred the Lulu-Land restaurant
to our own.
A day trip would have the
destination „New Lulu- Land“:
as Technik Museum Sinsheim
was new for our son.
With huge events like
BRAZZELTAG (for which we
were given extra hearing
protection for the kids for
Christmas) and the Science Fiction
Meeting we remained excited.
Our son’s grandma wanted to go
to the museum regularly with
him and so she became a member
too. Our son’s grandpa received
his yearly membership at
Christmas. Two befriended families
of our signed up for the museum’s
membership. So we often have
company of family and friends
to go to the big events. Since the
playgrounds were built at the
museum, we also meet as families
simply to have coffee and cake.
And if mum or dad have to work
at the weekend, there has always
been a friend from kindergarten to
go with Damian. The friendly staff
always helped carrying the trays
to his seat in the museum’s
restaurant immediately and
without any hassle.
Damian wanted to celebrate his
6th birthday with his friends in
Lulu-Land and it was a very
successful party with a super planning service on the part of
the Technik Museum - I didn‘t even have to worry about the
gifts for the children.

or coming to the Science Fiction Convention with self-made
costumes, lunch or coffee and cake at the Technik Museum,
all that has become part of our family now like a short trip or
meet-up with friends, spotaneously. Also the stuffed animals
at Wilhelmsbau is another highlight and lots of fun with the
little ones. Listening to the instruments is a special
experience for them, as well as for the adults.
Always presenting new ideas and events to which we are
invited by e-mail remain the membership to stay exciting.
The kids will never be „too big“ for the museum and we see
many more future visits here. So in 2019, we (my husband
and I) decided to sign up for a lifetime membership. We have
no regrets despite lockdown. We sincerely hope the museum
survives the Covid-19 pandemic.
On St. Nicholas‘ Day in 2020, we took part in the advent
campaing, treating ourselves and the grandparents to one of
the delicious advent menus. We still remember admiring the
carefully with attention-to-detail packed boxes.
