"The Moon" exhibition area includes an original NASA moonstone, mockups of the Apollo 11 lunar module, the "Lunar Roving Vehicle” lunar rover, and spacesuits.

Aside from the Space Shuttle Buran, Europe's largest space exhibition at Technik Museum Speyer, "Apollo and Beyond", has been presenting other high-profile exhibits since 2008. In addition numerous high-level astronauts and cosmonauts visited our exhibition. "The Moon" exhibition area complements the exhibition with a special highlight - a 3.4 billion year-old moon rock. An arc is stretched from the first to the last moon landing over a simulated lunar surface. Among other things you can see very detailed mockups of the Apollo 11 lunar module "EAGLE", the moon car "Lunar Roving Vehicle" (LRV) which was used during the moon landings, and space suits worn by Apollo 17 astronauts Eugene A. Cernan and Harrison H. Schmitt.

Original Moonstone
The moon rock displayed at the Technik Museum Speyer was chipped off from a basalt boulder in the Hadley-Apennine landing site on 01 August 1971 by the Apollo 15 astronauts, David R. Scott and James B. Irwin. Nearly 42 years after the rock came to the earth from the moon and was stored in a research laboratory at NASA in Houston. A large panorama shows this location on the moon. The Technik Museum Speyer is the only museum in Germany exhibiting an original Apollo moon rock against a true-to-life backdrop.
